April 2014 Newsletter

Greetings from Northeast Wisconsin on this late April day of 2014.This month has been very interesting to say the least! Of course to start out April is the popular “April Fool’s Day”. The most popular theory about the origin of April Fool’s Day involves the French calendar reform of the sixteenth century. The theory goes like this: In1564 France reformed its calendar, moving the start of the year from the end of March to January 1st. Those who failed to keep up with the change, who stubbornly clung to the old calendar system and continued to celebrate the New Year during the week that fell between March 25th & April 1st, had jokes played on them. Pranksters would surreptitiously stick paper fish to their backs. The victims of this prank were thus calledPoisson d’Avril, or April Fish — which, to this day, remains the French term for April Fools — and so the tradition was born. I am always intrigued on how these traditions always have some type of valid explanation. As the April of 2014 moves forward; this month brings Spring concerts & plays, First Communion Celebrations, Anniversaries, Birthdays, and all sorts of celebrations. The long winter is done and people are out and about enjoying the long awaited spring. Although “April Showers Bring May Flowers” in Northeast Wisconsin; this Spring is about 3 weeks behind the norm’. We inNortheast Wisconsin have had numerous days well below an average daily temperature and it seems like it just does not want to warm up! The month of April also celebrated “Earth Day” on the 22nd with numerous school functions as well as the Stockbridge Lions were involved by picking up litter in the neighborhood ditches within our community which was a welcome and huge success!
On a more personal note, April has several memorable dates; whereas on April 10th I celebrated 35 years of sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous and for that I am extremely grateful!Where did 35 years go?!?!! April also brought another birthday that I could probably put on the back burner, however on the front burner was the Christian celebration of Easter on April 20th; a day that has always been a special celebration in our family. I remember when I was a child how everyone was dressed in their finest attire; all the ladies would wear hats of all different kinds of splendor. How ironic, almost 2000 years later we are still celebrating the “Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ;” although the attire has changed to some degree our Faith is Still Strong!Whatever your belief, you must admit that here in Northeast Wisconsin; Spring and the month of April are always a welcome asset after a longgggg winter! I have to mention one more celebration our family just had; a 1st Holy Communion for our granddaughter Delaney. It was great and I am really happy that we were able to experience this special day with her. God Bless and Guide all our little boys & girls, for they are our future!

With regards to the Real Estate World home sales have dropped for the third straight month in Wisconsin as the frigid temperatures and hefty snowfall continued into March, according to the latest analysis of housing market activity released by the Wisconsin REALTORS® Association (WRA). However, the median price of existing homes rose a modest 1.9 % to $136,500 over the period between March 2013 & March 2014. Median prices were up 4.2% for the first quarter relative to the same quarter last year. Many analysts still predict 2014 to be an extremely strong year for the housing industry and here in Northeast Wisconsin we continue to improve.
